讲座题目：Institution Financial Transformation and Agricultural Labor Productivity: Evidence from the Reform of Postal Savings Bank of China

摘    要：The postal system is a key element in the global ecosystem, connecting people, businesses and governments across borders. Based on county - level data from 1993 to 2016, this study uses the reform of the Postal Savings Bank of China from being a subsidiary of the postal system as an exogenous shock to analyse whether it can stimulate agricultural labor productivity by improving access to credit. The results show that this institutional reform increased agricultural labor productivity by 11.9% - 16.6%, with services expansion from merely deposit - taking services to encompassing loan services. The main driving factors come from the capital deepening, notably through the investment in agricultural machinery. The effects are stronger in counties with moderate economic development, good fiscal self - sufficiency, and well - established financial markets. Using rural household data from 2003 to 2015, we find that the reform increased farmers’ access to credit, which expanded investment in both machinery and fertilizer. Moreover, household total income increased after the reform, especially in agricultural production income.
